Two UN forums take place in Geneva this week

Nov 26, 2024

The Forum on Business and Human Rights and the Forum on Minority Issues are being held this November

From 25 to 27 November, the Forum on Business and Human Rights will celebrate its thirteenth edition. As its name suggests, this meeting focuses on the intersection of business and human rights, providing participants with an opportunity to share experiences and learn about the latest initiatives aimed at promoting corporate respect for human rights.

For its 13th session, the Forum will focus on realising the “Smart Mix of Measures” to protect human rights in the context of business activities. It will provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas on the specific application and implementation of these measures at national, regional, and global levels.

Later in the week, another UN Forum will begin its seventeenth session: the Forum on Minority Issues (FMI) – which will take place on 28 and 29 November in room XX of Palais des nations. This year’s theme is minority representation and self-representation in public spaces and discourses, and the discussion will be divided into four main areas: public spaces, education, media, and culture.

According to the Forum Secretariat, this year’s edition will host around 690 participants from around the world, making it the most attended session in the Forum’s history.

During the preparatory meeting, the Special Rapporteur on minority rights, Prof. Levrat, emphasised that his final report will prioritise recommendations consisting of concrete actions that Member States can implement.
